Common cold and viruses discussion

Here is the article that was provided from the instructor. https://news.wisc.edu/model-virus-structure-shows-…

In response to your peers, ask any questions you may have about their viral disease example, and discuss some possible ways to overcome the challenges presented

The common cold is recovered quickly because it simple isn’t as harsh as some of the other viruses. Another reason that most people can recover from a common cold quickly is because your immune system adapts and becomes a strong resistant to the cold. A common virus that can sit dormant in your body for years is HIV, of course HIV is more serious than chicken pox.

From what I have learned in the past is that vaccines are made of the same virus but the virus is dormant or dead. As the article said The most effective vaccines are like a puzzle that need to fit almost if not perfectly with the living virus. And without knowing the exact structure of the virus such as the Rhinovirus C then you are left to guessing. It is mostly trial and error till you get the structure correct or they find the actual structure for the virus.

The common cold while a reoccurring illness has ways to counter it. It is stated that the common cold is made up of three viruses that contribute to its creation: Rhinovirus A, B, and C (Devitt, 2013). However there are many drugs and medicines that have been made through studying the viruses to help treat them and this treats the common cold. It is not a sickness that is always in us because it it less stabilized and mutates. Chicken pox, once contracted, is similar to measles in that the virus that causes them is more stable in our bodies and this is with us for the rest of our lives. However vaccines have been developed and that coupled with the stability of the virus gives us an immunity, hence why we almost never receive symptoms from the diseases again. There are a lot of factors to consider with certain viruses that make some incurable as opposed to others. Their geographical location can be a factor, as well as the disease’s ability to adapt in our bodies and change when accustomed to some treatments.
