I want to become an independent safety consultant for those companies who are too small to house their own safety director. Being able to put together a safety plan for these companies will be a critical part of my work and the more I learn, the more comfortable I get in being able to succesfully do this for my future clients. Learning more in depth about every aspect of safety has furthered my knowledge and understanding of the need for these programs and the need for changes within them. One safety incentive program I have seen used at a prevous company I worked for was a safety store initiative. Basically each jobsite would earn points for being within guidelines, having good inspections, PPE appropriately, etc…. Each person would also recieve individual points. at the end of the job we were allowed to use these points to purchase company gear. The job would have to use the points it earned the last week in the form of having lunch brought in and getting an extra hour on our lunch breaks. Individuals could save their points to use whenever and they could use them to purchase company gear such as coats, hats, tshirts, hoodies and other things. It was a good program and it did strongly encourage us to want to comply.
