The MRP process is utilized to schedule all items needed for the final product. This is the difference between dependent and independent demand. Independent demand is related to the final product and based on customer/market demand. Dependent demand are parts/components needed to manufacture the final product. The primary objective of MRP is to ensure inventory is available when needed while maintaining the lowest possible level of inventory.
