Large-Scale Cyber Crime
As we have seen, cyber crime can impact individuals or entire countries. This assignment will bring that idea into focus by considering certain specific acts and their scope. Using your text, and websites such as the United States Secret Service, the FBI, and the Internet Crime Complaint Center, prepare a 5-7 page report in Microsoft Report that addresses the following points:
- Discuss the role of the internet in terrorism. In other words, in what ways can terror groups utilize the internet to promote or support their causes?
- Explain how money laundering and corporate espionage are carried out via cyberspace. Enhance your discussion by providing data that show how prevalent these crimes are.
- On an individual level, identity theft is an ever-growing problem. Describe the methods by which an offender can steal a victim’s identity and show how that information can be used by the offender.
- Last, considering what you have discovered and explained above, discuss the role of internet service providers (ISPs) in countering cyber crime. What should ISPs be doing to prevent or limit cyber crime? Are they legally obligated to actively work against offenders?
