The article I choose to write about is the army decision to deny the Dakota pipeline permit. “The 1,885 km Dakota Access Pipeline, owned by Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners LP, had been complete except for a segment planned to run under Lake Oahe, a reservoir formed by a dam on the Missouri River”(ALJ 2016) “Instead, the Corps will be undertaking an environmental impact statement to look at possible alternate routes,” Archambault said. “We wholeheartedly support the decision of the administration and commend with the utmost gratitude the courage it took on the part of President Obama, the Army Corps, the Department of Justice and the Department of the Interior to take steps to correct the course of history and do the right thing.”(NYP 2016) The New York Post article gave recognition and praised the administrations that made this possible. The Aljazeera article, on the other hand, gave a brief description of the account as to what happened. The issue with the pipeline is how it would contaminate the water supply and damage sacred tribal lands with disregards to the citizen that live there on a daily basis. However, currently, Other options are now being examined.
