Practice Reading a Piece of Art

This week’s discussion post is a little different from the others. In this week’s post you need to find a piece of art created by a Native American artist. If you aren’t sure if the artist is Native American, then don’t use it as a source. A few good places to find art by Native Americans is ARTstor Workspace site (database available through the library’s website), Seattle Art Museum, Museum of Indian Arts and Culture (Santa Fe), or National Museum of the American Indian (Smithsonian). You can also search by artists like Oscar Howe, Fritz Scholder, or Arthur Amiotte.

Once you’ve located a piece of Native American Art, share a link to it at the beginning of your discussion post. Then, you need to practice reading it using the four-step process provided in this week’s online resource, The Museum of Fine Art, Houston.
