SMART (Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering and Tracking) is an office within the Office of Justice Programs in the Department of Justice. In 2012 this office started SOMAPI (Sex Offender Management Assessment and Planning Initiative) to examine the research and practice in sex offender management. Think critically about these findings. Compare and contrast the articles. For example, what is the typology, etiology and recidivism for rapists? Child molesters? How are these similar and different?
After contemplating these aspects, create a policy that incorporates research to prevent sexual assault and lower recidivism rates. The policy could be designed for law enforcement, the courts, or corrections. Make sure to support your policy by integrating research from all three briefs.
