The Florida Board of Nursing ensures that nurses are competent enough to practice safely. They license, discipline, educate, monitor, and rehabilitate nurses. If RN’s are unable to meet the standards set out by the state, they will lose their license and not be able to practice in the state. The Nurse Practice Act presents a foundation for safe, professional care for patients. It is designed to protect the public and “provide for established boards of nursing which have full authorization to create rules and regulations that ensure the laws are specific to the nursing profession and offer a sense of clarity” (Toney-Butler & Martin, 2021).The rules enacted by the board need to adhere to the laws put forth by the legislature and the Nurse Practice Act. The board consists of thirteen members, seven of which must be registered nurses that reside in the State of Florida and be part of the practice for at least four years. Three members must be LPN’s that reside in the state of Florida. Three members must also be residents of Florida but have never held a nursing license and are not involved in the nursing profession (Toney-Butler & Martin, 2021). The laws put forth are important to be aware of as Registered Nurses. We must be knowledgeable in current practice standards and rulesReferencesToney-Butler, T., Martin R. (2021).
