Silent Spring by Rachel Carson

In the opening weeks of the class we have been discussing the role of what we have referred to as “-isms” to our understanding of, what is environmental health.

We especially discussed the connection between Capitalism/Colonialism/Human Impact/Environmental Health

For your first assignment, in 2-3 pgs, I want you to apply the above connection to the portions of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring that you have read for the course (chps 1-7). What -isms are present? How can we see human impact and its long-term effect? Is our definition of capitalism present? How do all of these factors connected influence Carson’s views on environmental health?

Reading link below: The paper only needs to connect to chapters 1-7 of the book and shouldn’t use any outside sources. Must connect to the above topics.
