Purpose: To strengthen your own appreciation of the range and depth of workplace-based ethical issues faced by students in this online course.
Compose a one to two-page description of a workplace-based ethical situation that you have directly encountered, observed, or heard about from past or present colleagues. Besides telling the story, classify the ethical incident or issue as being in one or more of the following categories:
- Dishonesty
- Discrimination and Cronyism
- Violations of Privacy or Autonomy
- Violations of Loyalty or Secrecy
- Other (Please Specify)
You will undoubtedly wish to disguise the specific company, individuals, etc. This can be a personally challenging assignment for some individuals. If you believe that either your example is too trivial or perhaps too sensitive to reveal and possibly have discussed then you may substitute a workplace incident encountered by a relative or friend. |
